Biography

Overview

I am an Associate Professor of Accounting at Virginia Commonwealth University. I completed my PhD at Bentley University. Prior to taking an academic role, I spent three years with KPMG as an auditor, obtaining my CPA in the state of Virginia during that time, followed by three years in corporate accounting at a private equity firm in NYC.

I teach audit at both the undergraduate and doctoral levels. My research interests include using behavioral research methods to examine issues associated with audit firm quality control, audit firm culture and work features, auditor-auditor interactions, and auditor professional development. My interest in professional development extends to the classroom where I have developed several teaching cases that help students learn using "real world" audit techniques.

My work is published in top academic journals including Accounting, Organizations, and Society, Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory, Accounting Horizons, Behavioral Research in Accounting, Contemporary Accounting Research, and Issues in Accounting Education. I currently serve as an Editor at Issues in Accounting Education, and on the editorial boards for Accounting Horizons and Behavioral Research in Accounting. I am the President of the Accounting, Behaviors, and Organization Section of the American Accounting Association. I am also the Faculty Director of the VCU Executive and Junior Accounting Advisory Councils, as well as the Ph.D. Program Coordinator for Accounting.

I live in Henrico, VA with my husband, John, and our kids-Lucas (11), Vivian (9), Henry (7)-and our dog, Luna. When not working, I enjoy running and Barre classes, reading books, and traveling with my family.
